On May 31, 2026, officers with the Sedalia Police Department responded to the area of Third Street and Quincy Avenue in reference to a reported domestic assault. According to the probable cause statement, a caller reported observing a Black male wearing a red top strike a White female.

Officers responded to the area and were advised by the reporting party that the couple had walked east through an alley from Quincy Avenue. An officer subsequently observed a Black male and a White female matching the description walking eastbound on Wilkerson Street and made contact with them. The individuals were identified as Kenneth Samuel McGee Jr. and his girlfriend.

When questioned, McGee stated the two had been arguing but denied striking her. He told officers they had argued and that he had hugged and kissed her. Due to the nature of the call and observations at the scene, McGee was detained in handcuffs. After being advised of his Miranda rights, he indicated he understood and again denied assaulting his girlfriend.

McGeeโ€™s girlfriend told officers the couple had been arguing and had gotten very close to one another during the dispute, but she also denied that McGee had hit her. Officers observed several bruises on her arms and a red mark near her collarbone. When asked about the injury, she stated it was the result of rough sex.

Officers then interviewed the reporting party, who stated she witnessed McGee and his girlfriend arguing and observed McGee grab her and punch her once in the neck and torso area.

Based on the witness statement and the physical injuries observed on the victim, officers placed McGee under arrest. Before being placed into a patrol vehicle, McGee informed an officer that he had a meth pipe in his pocket. The pipe was recovered and later tested using a Nartec Methamphetamine Field Testing Ampule. The test yielded a positive result for methamphetamine residue. The pipe was collected and placed into evidence.

The probable cause statement noted that McGee is on parole for prior convictions of first-degree manslaughter and second-degree robbery and had previous arrests for third-degree assault and resisting arrest. McGee is now charged with domestic assault in the third degree and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
