On July 7, 2026, deputies with the Morgan County Sheriff's Office received an anonymous tip regarding Matthew Waylon Harris. According to the probable cause statement, the tip alleged Harris had made threats on Facebook after posting photographs of a homemade โbomb.โ
The probable cause statement alleges Harris posted that he โwill not light it, but it will hurt a lot of people.โ Deputies reported Harris made multiple Facebook posts stating that if anyone came onto his property in the 33500 block of Indian Hills Road in Stover, he would shoot them where they stood.
Deputies responded to the residence at approximately 12:01 a.m. Harris was located inside a trailer on the property and agreed to come outside to speak with deputies peacefully. Once Harris exited the trailer, he was taken into custody without incident.
Deputies advised Harris of his Miranda rights, which he stated he understood and agreed to waive by speaking with them. According to the probable cause statement, Harris voluntarily surrendered the homemade bomb to deputies, along with a Bearcat .22-caliber bolt-action rifle.
Deputies reported the homemade bomb was located in a sink inside the trailer. It was contained in a clear container with a black lid and a blue-and-black label. Inside the container, deputies reported locating black powder, several .22-caliber hollow-point rounds, multiple fireworks with the fuses still attached, and a separate bag containing an unknown powder. Harris stated the unknown powder came from another firework he had disassembled.
When asked about the Facebook posts, Harris admitted to creating and posting them. He also advised deputies that he was the primary user of the Facebook account with the username โMatthew Harris.โ
Harris was transported to the Morgan County Adult Detention Center without further incident and placed on a 24-hour hold. The probable cause statement notes Harris is not on supervised probation or parole.
Harris is now charged with unlawful possession, transport, manufacture, repair or sale of an illegal weapon.
