On July 6, 2026, an officer with the Columbia Police Department was dispatched to the area of ย Corporate PL/Dead End in Columbia in reference to an assault.

According to the probable cause statement, the officer arrived and spoke with Johnny Earl Crocitti. Crocitti told the officer he had seen the victim with items he believed belonged to him. He said he believed the victim had stolen the items from his camp.

Crocitti reported that he went to the victimโ€™s camp and began yelling at her. According to the probable cause statement, the victim was lying down in her tent while Crocitti stood near the entrance. The victim told the officer she had seen Crocitti on the street yelling at her. She stated she went to her camp and was inside her tent for approximately 10 minutes before Crocitti arrived.

Crocitti told the officer he threw a bag of food at the victim. He also stated he pulled out a lighter and threatened to burn the tent down. He further stated that the victim pulled out a knife and attempted to swing at him. He reported that he kicked the victim in the face with his right leg. Crocitti also disclosed he may have stepped on the victimโ€™s face two times while trying to get away.

The victim reported that when Crocitti began attacking her, she attempted to grab his legs to stop him from kicking her. She reported that Crocitti threw plastic totes filled with items at her and struck her. The victim reported she was inside the tent during the entire assault. She stated the assault lasted approximately five to 10 minutes.

The officer went to the victimโ€™s tent and observed a shopping cart and a tote full of items lying on the tent. The victim stated Crocitti kicked her two times in the head and may have punched her at least one time. She stated she was definitely struck three times in the head.

The officer observed bruising and redness on the right side of her face and a scratch on her chin. The victim reported her pain was a six out of 10 and said her jaw was stiffening, though she could move it gingerly.

The probable cause statement notes that Crocitti does not have a permanent address and is homeless. The statement also alleges Crocitti poses a danger to the victim and the community.

According to the probable cause statement, Crocitti has been arrested for sexual abuse in the third degree, two counts of assault in the second degree, unlawful imprisonment in the first degree, unlawful dealing with a child, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, stalking in the fourth degree, assault in the second degree with intent to harm a first responder, criminal contempt, purchasing drugs, stealing, and domestic assault in the second degree.

Crocitti is now charged with assault in the third degree.
