On June 14, 2026, deputies with the Pettis County Sheriffโ€™s Office responded to the 1200 block of S. Carr in reference to a reported firearm brandishing incident. Dispatch advised that the incident had occurred earlier in the night at the Greenbrier crossing on Carpenter Road.

A deputy made contact with a juvenile and her mother. The juvenile reported that she and a friend had gone to a gas station, where they saw Drew Steele and another juvenile. After leaving the gas station and traveling to the Green Brier low-water crossing, the juvenile observed a dark-colored passenger car, which she recognized as the vehicle occupied by Steele and the juvenile slowly approached their location.

According to the juvenile, Steele exited the vehicle and shouted, โ€œWhereโ€™s [juvenileโ€™s name] ?โ€ After she responded, Steele approached her and began threatening to kill her. The juvenile stated that Steele then lifted his shirt and displayed the handle of a handgun in a threatening manner before removing the firearm and pointing it at her while continuing to make threats. The juvenile described the handgun as tan in color. Steele then returned to his vehicle and left the area.

Deputies identified a gray passenger car frequently associated with Steele through prior traffic stops. FLOCK camera images of the vehicle were obtained, and the juvenile positively identified the vehicle as the one involved in the incident. The juvenile also positively identified Steele from a photograph as the individual who threatened her.

Deputies then traveled to the 22000 block of Highway 135, the registered address associated with the vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle and made contact with Steele. Steele acknowledged having prior issues with the juvenile but denied being at Greenbrier. When asked about a handgun, Steele initially denied possessing one before later stating that he did have a pistol but did not own it.

Steele was placed under arrest and granted permission for deputies to retrieve the firearm from the residence. Another resident provided deputies with the handgun, which was identified as a Rock Island Armory 1911-style .45-caliber pistol with a loaded magazine. The firearm appeared tan in color and matched the description provided by the victim. The weapon was seized as evidence.

Steele is now charged with endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action.
